During the coldest months in Edmonton—when most are holed up indoors to keep warm—Adriana Onita challenged herself to explore this snow-covered landscape and to spontaneously create art in the most intimate corners of her winter city. The result: CONJUGATED LIGHT, a multilingual collection of photography and poetry that blends languages like paints to contemplate themes of hope, survival, and the natural world. Infused with crisp insights and the fresh air she wrote them in, Onita’s poems are both a gift to the reader and the lands and languages she calls home.

ADRIANA ONITA lives at the intersection between poetry, art, and languages. Născută în București, she writes poetry in English, Romanian, Spanish, French, and Italian. She is the founding editor of THE POLYGLOT, a magazine showcasing multilingual poetry and art in Canada, and the Program Coordinator for the Edmonton Poetry Festival. Currently, she is pursuing her PhD in Second Language Education at the University of Alberta, where she also teaches. Cuando no está escribiendo o enseñando, Adriana can be found painting en plein air in the river valley!

This chapbook project was generously supported by a Cultural Diversity in the Arts Project Grant from the Edmonton Arts Council.
